No More Delusions

I had my semi-monthly poker night with my co-workers last night. There were 11 players. I was the 2nd one that busted out. I wasn’t getting any cards that I could play with. After about 15 hands, I think I paid to see the Flop once and, on that hand, I folded before the Turn. I figured my table image was tight, so I decided to go for an all out bluff. Unfortunately, one of the strongest players called my bluff. I was so screwed. I had a 56s in the hole. I think I had an inside straight draw going into the River, but I knew it was too late. I lost about 2/3 of my chips on that hand. My opponent had two pair. I had nothing. It wasn’t too much longer before I was knocked out.

I went out in style though. I had AJs and flopped an A, so I was comfortable with top pair. The only other guy to stay in was betting rather conservatively, so I figured he didn’t have much. None of the other community cards were much to speak of, so I pushed all in. He called. Turns out he had pocket aces. I think I made the right decision based on what I had. Oh well.

I’m not totally discouraged. When I got home, I watched poker on TV for awhile. I still have the bug, but I’m not going to rush to play with real money on PokerStars for now. A couple of the guys I played with have played Limit Hold ‘Em in a casino. Apparently, $1/$2 tables are common, so I’ll give it a shot when my wife and I go to Atlantic City in a couple of weeks. I’m still thinking about playing in the No Limit tournament, but I don’t think my wife will appreciate me being occupied for one of our two evenings away from the kids.
